Cherry River Loop Trail: 0.8 mile loop, 30 minutes, level. S: The Cherry
River Fishing Access sits at the northwest corner of Bozeman along the East Gallatin
River. The Cherry River was named in the 1800’s for its abundance of choke cherry
trees. A trail loops through open grasslands and around the wetlands to the East
Gallatin River. The Bridger Mountains are a backdrop to this beautiful preserve. Signs
describe the riparian habitat, birds, mammals, fish, and vegetation along the trail.
D:From I-90 and the 7th Ave. overpass in Bozeman, drive 1 mile northbound on 7th Ave.
(which becomes West Frontage Road) to the posted trailhead parking lot on the right.
H:From the posted trailhead, take the left fork- the Cherry River Loop Trail. Pass signs
while going clockwise toward to the East Gallatin River. At the north end, curve right, passing a side path leading to the river. On the northeast corner of the main trail is a
split. Stay to the right along the east side of the wetland, passing cattails willows, and
dogwood. On the south side of the loop, skirt between both ponds on a raised berm,
returning to the trail head.
